The reverse face of Proof American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins includes a new design with each date mark. The only design to ever repeat on the reverse of the coins was Thomas D. Rogers depiction of the American bald eagle soaring over America. It featured on the inaugural design in 1997 and the 2017 date mark for the 20^th anniversary of the series. Other dates have differing depictions of the American eagle, symbols of the federal government, and, in some cases, images of Lady Liberty.

History

Proof American Eagle Platinum Coins are the only US annual-release bullion coins with new images on one side each year. The Proof American Eagle Platinum coins were initially available in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights. This continued from 1997 to 2008, with the fractional-ounce weights halted in 2009.
