Obverse
On the obverse side of 2021 Australian Lunar Ox 1/2 oz Gold Coins is a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the sixth-generation effigy of the Queen to showcase on Australian coins. It is also the first since 1966 to include her neckline and shoulders. The Queen is shown with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head, earrings in, and the Victorian coronation necklace around her neck resting on her shoulders. The inscriptions this field include Elizabeth II, Australia, 1/2 oz 9999 Au, and 50 Dollars.
Reverse
The reverse face of the 2021 Australian Lunar Ox 1/2 oz Gold Coin includes an image of a lone adult ox. This powerful beast is shown standing amidst bamboo stalks. The ox is a member of the bovine family and has been largely used as a draft animal performing heavy labor on farms such as towing plows or hauling carts over the course of thousands of years of human history. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read Ox 2021 and also the Chinese symbol for ox.
History
The Perth Mint issues all of the gold coins in the Lunar Series III collection, except the 1 oz coin, with an unlimited mintage. This means the Perth Mint will strike the Year of the Ox design through late 2021 when the next design in the series is ready for release.
