The first Krugerrand Silver Coins from the South African Mint were special Premium Uncirculated and proof coins for the 50th anniversary. Due to the popular reception of the program, a standard silver bullion coin was introduced in 2018 along with a regular 1 oz silver proof. In 2020, the series expanded further to include a first-ever 2 oz silver proof version of the Krugerrand.
Obverse
Paul Kruger is depicted in left-profile relief on the obverse of the 2020 South African Krugerrand 1 oz Silver Coin. This portrait is based on an original die casting from 1892 of Kruger that was intended for use on the South African Pound denominations in circulation at that time. Otto Schultz used that portrait as inspiration in creating his effigy of Kruger for the Krugerrand.
Reverse
The national symbol of the Republic of South Africa is the Springbok antelope and it features on the reverse of the 2020 South African Krugerrand 1 oz Silver Coins. The springbok is featured in right-profile relief as it elegantly moves across grasslands in its native habitat in southern Africa.
History
The Krugerrand 1 oz Silver Coin has a brief, but exciting, history. The few previous releases of the coin have sparked the interest of investors. The silver bullion coins use the exact same designs as their gold counterparts, but are different in their own way. While the gold coins have never featured a face value, the Krugerrand silver coin is actually given a face value of 1 Rand.

When you purchase 2020 South African Krugerrand 1 oz Silver Coins, you receive coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are shipped individually inside of protective flips, in mint tubes of 25 coins, and in Monster Boxes of 500 coins.
