For the 150th anniversary of the independence of Canada, the Royal Canadian Mint is releasing a series of coins. The seventh release in the series is the 2017 Proof Canadian Celebrating Canadas 150th Series Grizzly Bear 1/2 oz Silver Coin. Right now, you can purchase this beautiful colorized coin from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Ships in a protective maroon clamshell from the Royal Canadian Mint!
  • 7th release in the Celebrating Canada Series!
  • Mintage limited to just 25,000 coins!
  • Each coin contains 1/2 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • Given a face value of $10 (CAD) by the government of Canada.
  • Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse.
  • Reverse showcases the image of a Grizzly Bear.

The Celebrating Canadas 150th Anniversary Series is a 13-coin collection that shows you the beauty that each province and territory has to offer. This series is a collaboration between the Royal Canadian Mint and Canadian Geographic, which provides stunning photographs from across Canada to be used on these coins.

Each month, there is a new coin released in this series. The designs are shown in brilliant colorized images. The releases are presented in the order of the entry of Canadas provinces and territories into the Confederation. This coin was designed by Janet Stevens and given a matte proof.

Obverse

On the obverse of each of these coins, you will see the right-profile image of Queen Elizabeth II. She has been featured on all British, Canadian, and commonwealth coins since 1952 when she was coronated Queen except in special circumstances. This particular portrait was designed by Susanna Blunt in 2003.

Reverse

The reverse image on each coin is that of a massive grizzly bear. This grizzly lays in long grasses enjoying the sun. You can see the bears large head and paws as it lounges in the beautiful nature that is all over the Canadian landscape.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint is the official mint of Canada. Owned by the federal government, the mint opened in Ottawa in 1908. Now, there is a second facility located in Winnipeg that opened in the 1980s to help increase output.
