The Year of the Rooster covers those born in 2017, and every 12th year going backward in time. Those born under the rooster’s sign are said to be hardworking, loyal, honest, and sociable. The Perth Mint has various Proof Australian Silver Roosters available this year, including 1 Kilo, 2 oz, and 1 oz coins. The 2 oz is available only a three-coin set with this 2017 oz Proof Australian Silver Rooster and the 1 oz coin.
Obverse Design
On the obverse side of each Proof Australian Silver Rooster, you’ll find the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majestys image was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, and represents the fourth change to her appearance on British and commonwealth coinage since 1952.
Reverse Design
The reverse of all 2017 oz Proof Australian Silver Rooster coins includes the image of a grouping of chickens. The rooster is featured standing tall and proud, while a hen and three chicks peck for food on the ground.

Australias Perth Mint opened its doors in 1899 as the third and final Royal Mint facility in the country. Today it is a state-owned entity of Western Australia’s government, and it operates separate of the Royal Australian Mint.
