Obverse
On the obverse side of 2017 Australian Lunar Rooster 2 oz Silver Coins is Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fifth-generation portrait of Her Majesty to feature on Australian coins and was created for the Royal Mint of England in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. In the portrait, the Queen is shown in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head.
Reverse
The reverse face of the 2017 Australian Lunar Rooster Silver Coins features a family of chickens. In this unique design to the 2017 silver coins in the Lunar Series II collection, a rooster is featured along with a hen and three chickens.
History
The Lunar Series II collection was produced by the Perth Mint from 2008 to 2019 and followed the exact 12-year cycle of the Zodiac. This means starting with the Year of the Mouse/Rat and concluding with the Year of the Pig.
