Obverse

Queen Elizabeth Ii is featured proudly on the obverse of each coin. Her image was created by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. Also on this side of the coin, you will see engravings of Her Majestys name, the nation of issue, the year of issue, the face value of the coin, and the purity, weight, and metal content of the coin.

Reverse

Ing Ing Jongs Year of the Monkey design graces the reverse side of these coins in fully colorized imagery. In the design, you will see a young monkey presenting an adult monkey with a peach. The two monkeys are sitting high in a peach tree. Engravings on this face of the coin include the Chinese symbol for monkey, the phrase Year of the Monkey, and the P mint mark for the Perth Mint.

History

The Perth Mint was established in 1899. It was originally part of the British Royal Mint refinery system in Australia. At the time, it was the third of three mints in the country made to produce coinage for Great Britain and its commonwealth countries. The mint was sold to the government of Western Australia in 1970.
