The Kennedy Half Dollar coin design is one of the few remaining circulation denominations with a design from the 20th century. In order of age, those coins are the Lincoln Penny (1909), Washington Quarter (1932), Roosevelt Dime (1946), and the Kennedy Half Dollar (1964). Though the Kennedy Half Dollar may be the youngest of these, it also stands out as one of the most unique. Provident Metals is happy to offer $10 Face Value Tubes of 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars to purchase online.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a plastic tube of 20 US half dollars!
  • 1964 is the only available date mark!
  • Contains .36169 Troy oz of actual silver content per coin.
  • Issued individual face values of $.50 (USD) per coin by the government of the United States.
  • President John F. Kennedy on the obverse.
  • Modified presidential seal on the reverse.

When you purchase the $10 Face Value Tube of 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars in this product listing, you will receive a plastic tube with a total of 20 US half dollar coins. Each of those coins comes from the Kennedy Half Dollar design phase, and as these are 90% silver coins, each one can only have a date mark of 1964.

Obverse

President John F. Kennedy is depicted in left-profile relief on the obverse of the 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollar. This design was created by Gilroy Roberts earlier in Kennedys time in office for the President Medal Series and, for the half dollar coin, includes the word Liberty across the top, In God We Trust, on either side at the bottom of the bust, and the date mark at the very bottom.

Reverse

Frank Gasparro created the modified presidential featured on the reverse of the 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollar Coin. The seal is based on the heraldic eagle of the United States with a different design element in the background and the 13 stars of the original colonies arranged in an arc above the eagles head.

History

As mentioned earlier, the Kennedy Half Dollar coins were introduced in 1964 and have a unique history among circulating silver coins in the US. The Kennedy Half Dollar was available for only one year with 90% silver and 10% copper content. While all other denominations switched to the cupro-nickel alloy in 1965, the Kennedy Half Dollar actually carried on as a 40% silver coin from 1965 to 1970 with 40% silver content and 60% copper.
