The Apollo 11 mission launched on July 16, 1969, by NASA. The entire mission lasted only eight days, but three men were sent to the moon, where two of them were sent out onto the surface of our moon. The goal was to explore the moon and get the astronauts home safely, which NASA did successfully.

Obverse

On the obverse of the For All Mankind Round, you will see Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong as they plant the American flag on the surface of the moon. As the flag was put into the ground, the phrase, We Came in Peace for All Mankind was uttered. Now, those words are also engraved on the obverse face of the round.

Reverse
The reverse of each round in the Apollo 11 Series contains the image of the Apollo 11 mission patch. The image includes an American bald eagle with outstretched wings. In its talons, an olive branch is shown as the symbol of a peaceful moon landing mission.

History

The North American Mint created the full eight-round Apollo 11 Series. Each design in the series represents a different stage of the Apollo 11 mission and reflects the total number of days the crew of the ship spent in outer space.
