One of most popular design concepts for copper rounds is the use of historic American coin designs. Many of the designs found on US silver and gold denominations from the late-19th and early-20th centuries can still be found today replicated on silver and copper rounds, including the Morgan Silver Dollar. Today, you have the opportunity to get 1 oz Copper Morgan Rounds online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a plastic flip, a tube of 10 to 20 rounds, or boxes of 500 rounds!
  • Envisions the Liberty design from the Morgan Dollar!
  • Contains 1 AVDP oz of .999 pure copper.
  • The obverse features a left-profile bust of Liberty.
  • On the reverse is a set of wings with a US shield.
  • Privately minted in the United States.

The Morgan Silver Dollar was released into circulation in the United States in 1878 after five years of no silver coining at the United States Mint. The Coinage Act of 1873 halted the free coining of silver in the US and brought an end to the long-running Seated Liberty Dollar design. Newly-hired engraver George T. Morgan was given the assignment of crafting obverse and reverse designs for the new silver dollar and his name became forever attached to the coin as the Morgan Silver Dollar.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 1 oz Copper Morgan Round features the bust of Liberty that was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan. The left-profile portrait features Liberty wearing her hair up in a cap with a crown wreath and a coronet that has the word Liberty inscribed on it. The phrase E Pluribus Unum is inscribed along the top of the design rocker with a total of 13 stars around the bottom half of the rocker.

Reverse

On the reverse face of the 1 oz Copper Morgan Rounds is a common design element for this broader series of 1 oz Copper Rounds from the private mint. There is a set of eagles wings in the center with a US shield at the center of the wings. The American flag flutters in the wind above the design and the initials USA are inscribed along the bottom.

History

George T. Morgan had an illustrious career at the United States Mint. Born in Birmingham, England, in 1845, Morgan came to the United States in 1876 and was hired by then-Chief Engraver William Barber as an assistant engraver at the US Mint. One of this first major contributions was the Morgan Silver Dollar design, but his career didnt stop there. Over the course of a nearly-50 year career at the US Mint, he designed countless other coins for the US and finished his career serving as the 7th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1917 until his death in 1925.
