One of the more uniquely struck coins in American history was the Indian Head gold pieces with the Incuse Indian strike. This image of a Native American represented one of the first major US denominations to use an indigenous figure as the primary design element. The Incuse Indian design featured on the Quarter Eagle and Half Eagle Gold coins at the US Mint through 1929. Today, you have the chance to purchase 1 oz Copper Incuse Indian Rounds online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with individual protective plastic flips, tubes of 10 to 20 rounds, or boxes of 500 rounds!
  • Replicates the Incuse Indian obverse and reverse designs!
  • Contains 1 AVDP oz of .999 pure copper.
  • On the obverse is the left-profile bust of an indigenous figure.
  • The reverse side includes an American bald eagle in a sheaf of arrows.
  • Issued by a private American mint.

The recessed strike of the Incuse Indian coins remains the only issue for circulation from the United States Mint to use such a design strike. The design was featured on the Quarter Eagle coin from 1908 to 1915 and again from 1925 to 1929. The Half Eagle was struck from 1908 to 1916 and again one last time in 1929.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 1 oz Copper Incuse Indian Round is a left-profile bust of an indigenous leader wearing a full, native headdress. The stoic figure is surrounded by inscriptions that include six stars in front of his face with seven stars behind his headdress. The word Liberty is inscribed above the figures head with a random date mark below the bust of the Native American.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 1 oz Copper Incuse Indian Rounds includes the same design from the Indian Head gold pieces. This design includes the image of a powerful American bald eagle at rest on a sheaf of arrows. The cluster of arrows is wrapped in an olive branch and includes inscriptions from the former gold pieces of E Pluribus Unum and In God We Trust. You will also find the weight, purity, and metal content on this side.

History

The design from the Quarter Eagle, Half Eagle, and these Copper Incuse Indian Rounds is a recessed strike. Rather than engraving the designs onto the surface of the round and creating three-dimensional elements, the design is struck into the surface of the coin. The design features are sunken below the surface, so if you were to run your hand over the designs on either side you would not feel raised reliefs on any of the elements.

Ordering

These 1 oz Copper Incuse Indian Rounds are available to you for purchase online in brand-new condition. The rounds are housed individually in plastic flips, in mint tubes containing between 10 and 20 rounds, or in boxes of 500 rounds.
